Road crash claims eight lives in Faridpur

At least eight people were killed and 20 others injured after a bus plunged into a roadside ditch during negotiating a bridge in Faridpur on Saturday.

The accident occurred on the Dhaka-Faridpur Highway in Dhuldi area under Sadar Upazila of the district at about 2.30 pm, Faridpur police super Alimuzzaman said.

The identities of the deceased could not be known yet, reports UNB.

The Gobaplganj-bound passenger bus of ‘Comfort Line” was coming from Dhaka.

Kotwali Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge FM Nasim said six people were killed on the spot after the ‘Comfort Paribahan’ bus fell off the bridge.

The injured were taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital (FMCH), the OC said.

Two of them succumbed to their injuries at FMCH, said Fire Service’s Assistant Deputy Director Shawkat Ali.

Faridpur region’s Highway Police Superintendent Mostafizur Rahman said the driver lost control when allowing a speeding motorcycle to pass.
