Road accidents claim around 2,000 lives in five months: Study

Some 1,995 people were killed and 4,772 injured in road accidents in the country in the last five months, said a study report said.

The study, conducted by Bangladesh Riverine, Road and Railway Protection Committee, a private sector platform, said some 1,926 road accidents took place in the country during the period.

Among the deceased 251 were women and 258 were children.

The Protection Committee unveiled their study report on Friday in Dhaka on accident in the national, regional and district highways across the country.

The body said they have compiled the report screening 22 national newspaper, 10 regional newspapers and eight online portals of Bangladesh.

In January this year, the death incidents were highest at 425 in 403 road accidents while in February some 413 persons were killed in 373 accidents.

In March, some 385 persons were killed in 379 accidents and in April the death toll was 389 in 408 accidents.

Some 383 persons were killed in 363 accidents across the country, the Committee report said.
