Around ten kilometres of land along the Surma and Lova rivers in Kanaighat upazila are at the risk of erosion.
The embankment along the Surma river and number of houses adjacent to it are being battered by the flow of the river water, reports UNB.
Victims of the locality formed a 10-kilometre-long human chain along the banks of Surma and Lova rivers around 10 am on Saturday demanding immediate measures by the concerned authorities to prevent the erosion.
The speakers at the human chain urged the government to build a 10-kiliometre long embankment within shortest possible time.
President of River Erosion Prevention Committee Advocate Abdul Rahim, Kanaighat Upazila Parishad Chairman Ashik Uddin Chowdhury, among others, took part in the programme.
