The local authority at a meeting clamped some 10-point restrictions for the tourists and water vessels intending to visit the attractive Tanguar haor and other tourist spots in Sunamganj haor region.

Drivers of motorised boats and their owners alongside some tour guides attended the meeting held in the Tahirpur trawler-ghat area with the administrative and police officials on Wednesday afternoon. Later, a handbill containing 10-point instructions for all concerned, including the general tourists and the river-transport owners, were distributed.

In a bid to avert any untoward incident of boat capsize amid Covid situation, the motorised boat owners should keep sufficient life jackets and other tools for the common tourists. The police and upazila administration should be informed 06 hours ahead about the details of the boatmen, the number of tourists, starting time, travel route etc in the information sheet.

Due to ignorance of sufficient cautionary measures, boat capsize incidents take place often during the monsoon every year. On the other hand, mass awareness should be created against transportation of excess tourists on boats, dumping plastic and other wastes alongside use of high volume sound box for amusement by the tourists during travelling the haor. Boat rides during bad weather and heavy rain should also be avoided, the official added.

Although travel restrictions were imposed since March 19 of last year on Covid issue, it was relaxed last week. Normally, huge visitors come to see the renowned tourist spots like Tanguar haor, Shahid Siraj Lake, Tekerghat, Barektila, Jadukata river and Shimul bagan etc in Tahirpur and around. Boat rides draw huge visitors during the monsoon while untoward incidents also claim life of people almost every year.
