The High Court (HC) has asked for a report on how many children of the poor and disadvantaged and heroic freedom fighters have been able to study in private universities without tuition fees since 2010.
University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh has been directed to submit the report to the High Court within 60 days.
In response to a writ petition on Monday, the HC asked the UGC to submit a report on how much money has been allocated for research at the different private universities.
A HC bench comprising justice Md Mujibur Rahman Mia and justice Khizir Hayat passed the order.
The HC also has issued a rule asking why the authorities concerned of the UGC and government to respond and explain in four weeks .. why their inaction to implement the Private University Act 2010 should not be declared illegal.
According to the Private University Act 2010, 3.0 per cent poor and disadvantaged students and 3.0 per cent children of heroic freedom fighters will receive the facilities to study in private universities without any tuition fee.
