Registered Rohingya number reaches 1.04m

Department of Immigration and Passports under Home Ministry have already completed registration of 1.038 million Rohingya people, who infiltrated into Bangladesh from neighbouring Myanmar.

The authorities of Immigration and Passports Department informed the parliamentary standing committee on the Ministry of Home Affairs of the matter at the 19th meeting of JS body at Jatiya Sangsad (JS) on Thursday with its Chairman Tipu Munshi in the chair, according to an official release.

The registered Rohingyas won't be able to get Bangladeshi passport and national identity card (NID).

BSS said the JS body was also informed that over 600,000 Rohingyas have taken shelter in the 13 square kilometres long Kutupalang Refugee Camp in Cox's Bazar.

The JS body has recommended installing fence around the camp to ensure security to the Rohingyas and arranging energy for cooking aimed at protecting the forest from deforestation.

Among others, members of the committee Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Md Faridul Haque Khan, Abu Sayed Al Mahmood Awapon, Fakhrul Imam and Begum Kamrun Nahar Chowdhury were present at the meeting.
