BOGURA, Aug 26: Some 115 major roads in the district have severely been damaged by the recent flood, causing untold sufferings to the locals.
Sources at the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) said the flood damaged roads, bridges and culverts worth Tk 650 million.
People of Gabtoly, Sonatola, Sariakandi and Dhunot upazilas were the worst sufferers with the prolonged flood like situation this year, sources added.
LGED office sources said a total of 215- km roads worth Tk 510 million and 15 bridges and few culverts worth Tk 140 million have washed way. The communication of schools, colleges and madrasas has drastically broken down.
Over 3,000 families of 370 villages in all the 12 upazilas of the district were displaced by the recent flood. A total of 55,000 people have been hit hard, while 60,000 people were partially affected, according to Relief and Rehabilitation Office source.
Baluahat villagers, of nearby upazila headquarter under Sonatola upazila, after returning from the shelter centre had found that their only road was completely damaged.
Executive engineer of LGED Kazi Saiful Kabir said the department has already sent letter to the higher authority seeking fund allocation.
"When fund would be ablewe will start the repairing work", he added.
Bogura Deputy Commissioner Foyez Ahmed said, "The damaged roads and bridges will be repaired after the allocation of fund."
