A low-key Rash festival at Dublar Char in the Sundarbans has ended with Hindus taking a holy bath in the nearby salty waters of the Bay of Bengal on Monday morning hoping to atone for their sins.

The holy bath continued for an hour after starting before sunrise at 6am, and before the bath devotees prayed on the seashore.

This year, about 15,000 pilgrims took part in the festival that began on Sunday.

Organisers of the festival say they organise it for three days every year at the end of the month of Kartik or at the beginning of Agrahayan during Purnima, or full moon.

It is the largest sea fair in Asia, they claim.

With the arrival of thousands of devotees and visitors from home and abroad, the festival becomes the talk of the town.

Due to Covid-19, this year there was no fair on the occasion. People of other religions, tourists and visitors were not allowed to go to Dublar Char.

Only Hindus were allowed to participate in the worship and take their holy bath during the low-key event marking the moment of union of their god Krishna and his beloved Radha.

Earlier, the authorities had issued the dos and don’ts ahead of the event due to the prevailing coronavirus situation in the country.
