RANGPUR, Oct 04: The growers of early cultivated radish in the district are hopeful about achieving a good yield of their produce during the current season due to a congenial weather condition and timely supply of agri-input.
Radish is being cultivated in abundance at Annadanagor, Chhawla, Deuti and Nabdiganj at Pirgachha upazila, Paschim Mandrain,Changmari in Gangachara upazila, Pairaband, Boiragiganj, Ranipukur at Mithapukur upazila, Baniapara, Alampur of Taraganj upazila, and Keshobpur, Palichara area in Sadar upazila are known for abundant radish and other vegetable farming.
According to sources, radish growers under the district have been getting an excellent output of their produce for the last several years which is encouraging them to enhance its cultivation across the region.
Due to handsome profit peasants are getting interested in the cultivation of different varieties of early winter vegetables including radish than cultivation of some other crops, sources said.
Saiful Mia, a farmer at Nabdiganj village under Pirgachha upazila told The Financial Express that he cultivated radish on 30 decimals of land during this season and the condition of its growth is satisfactory.
Last year he earned expected profit from the sale of radish produced in his land, he also said.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said the peasants under the district have been earning good profit through farming different varieties of early winter vegetables including radish in recent years.
Satisfactory prices as well as huge demand have encouraged the cultivators to cultivate the early winter vegetables on a large scale, sources further said. DAE is also giving the growers necessary advices in this regard so that they can get expected yield of the vegetables, sources added.
