RANGPUR, Dec 10: The broccoli cultivators in different areas of the district are hopeful about a plentiful yield of the vegetable in this season.
This year winter vegetable growers under the district geared up the farming of different varieties of vegetables including broccoli and made vigorous efforts with the optimism of expected output as well as handsome profit from the sale of their produces.
Aminul, a broccoli grower in Nabdiganj area in Pirgachha upazila said he prefers farming vegetables due to high profit in comparison with many other crops. He cultivated broccoli on 40 decimals of land this season. For the last few years he has been getting a satisfactory yield as well as good profit from farming of the vegetable, he also said. He is expected to expand his vegetables farming next year, he added.
Haider Mia, another broccoli grower of Ranipukur area in Mithapukur upazila told the FE a good number of peasants of his area are showing their interest in the farming of broccoli than the cultivation of other crops owing to huge profit. He has cultivated the vegetable on 45 decimals of land this season and is expecting plentiful yield, he also said.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Rangpur, official sources said satisfactory prices as well as huge demand have encouraged the cultivators to grow the vegetable on a large scale. Use of modern technology also enhanced its production in recent years, sources said.
DAE is also giving the growers necessary advices in this regard so that they can get expected yield of the vegetables including broccoli. Due to early harvest farmers also earn good profit of their produces, sources added.
