RANGPUR, May 07: The arum cultivators across the district are optimistic about achieving a good yield of the vegetable during the current season due to a favourable weather condition and timely supply of agri-inputs.
Visiting different areas under the region this FE correspondent found the growers taking care of their arum fields.
This year farmers of the district made vigorous efforts with the hope to get expected output as well as handsome profit from the sale of the vegetable.
According to sources, arum growers under the district have been getting satisfactory output of their produce for the last several years which is encouraging them to expand its cultivation across the region.
Manik Mia, a taro arum cultivator of Chhilimpur village under Pirganj uazila told The Financial Express that the farming of different varieties of arum is easier than the cultivation of some other crops as it does not require much irrigation as well as fertiliser.
He has been cultivating taro on his 25 decimals of land for the last six years and getting good profit, he said.
Hafizur, another grower of arum at Nazirdaho village in Kawnia upazila said he prefers farming vegetables due to high profit in comparison with many other crops.
He cultivated arum on 30 decimals of land this season. During last few years he has been getting an excellent yield as well as handsome profit from farming of the vegetable, he said.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Rangpur official sources said satisfactory price as well as huge demand have encouraged the cultivators to cultivate the vegetable on a large scale.
DAE is also giving the growers necessary advice in this regard so that they can get good yield of vegetables including arum. Early harvest also ensures huge profit, sources added.
