Rainstorm trend might abate after Pahela Baishakh

Rainstorms that have been intermittently hitting many places across the country, including Dhaka, for the last few days might subside after Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the Bangla new year that falls on April 14.

"This weather condition may come down after April 14, along with a rise in the temperature," said Abul Kalam Mallik, a weather expert. Given that it is the time of Kalbaishakhi (nor'wester), he sees the rainstorms at short intervals as 'normal'.

Citing that nor'westers are taking place this year a bit more than those in past years, he said, "Weather conditions do not become the same every year.

"Some years see fewer nor'westers and some more; it is normal. The number of rainstorms that have so far taken place this year is also normal," he said.

On Monday afternoon, heavy rains, coupled with gutsy winds and hail, swept Dhaka and some other places in the country.

Light rains also drenched Dhaka city on Monday morning with dark clouds appearing in the city from 9:30am.
