Rainfall may increase from Thursday

The rainfall that is now occurring across the country may increase from Thursday, said Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Monday.

"The rainfall may increase across the country from May 10 giving a pose for two to three days from May 7 to 9," Abdur Rahman, a meteorologist at BMD office, said.

He said light to moderate rain or thundershowers and nor'wester may continue with lightening flashes and hails at many places over Narsingdi, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Sylhet, Chattogram and Mymensingh divisions during the period.

Besides, a weather forecast of met office said light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind and lightning flashes is likely to occur at most places over Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Rangpur, Dhaka and Chattogram divisions.

Moderate rain or thundershowers may take one or two places over Rajshahi, Khulna and Barishal divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls and hails at isolated places over the country in 24 hours as of 9 am tomorrow (Tuesday).

Day and night temperature may rise slightly over the country during the period, reports BSS.

A warning message issued from BMD office on Monday said under the influence of severe thunderstorm activity with lightning flashes heavy (44-88 mm) to very heavy (89 mm) rainfall with gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at places over Mymensingh, Sylhet divisions and the districts of Kishoreganj, Narshingdhi, Gazipur, Brahmanbaria, Cumilla, Rangamati and Khagrachhari during next 24 hours commencing from 10 am on Monday.

The highest rainfall in the last 24 hours as of 6 am on Monday was recorded 179 mm in Mymensingh.
