Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon has said the capital’s drainage system supports maximum 50 millimetres of rainfall.
Hence, the city may experience waterlogging in the event downpour exceeds the limit.
His remarks came on Saturday at a meet the press programme held at Dhaka Reporters Unity in the city, organised by Dhaka Utility Reporters Association (DURA).
The mayor also said that the problem of waterlogging cannot be solved completely, but the DSCC is committed to bring it to a bearable state.
Dhaka WASA is mainly responsible for solving the city’s waterlogging problem.
However, the DSCC is prepared to take the responsibility upon getting instructions from Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives, he added.
