Rain likely in next two days in parts of country

Rain or thundershower is likely to occur in different regions across the country on Monday and Tuesday, according to an official at Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

Mild to a moderate heat wave is sweeping over Barishal and Chattogram divisions and the regions of Dhaka, Madaripur, Gopalgonj, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Pabna, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jashore and Kushtia and it may abate at some places, the official said.

Talking to The Financial Express, Abdul Mannan, a BMD meteorologist, said rain is likely to occur in Sylhet Division on Monday.

Rain may continue to occur in Tuesday in Sylhet, Chattogram and Mymensingh divisions along with Cumilla district, the BMD meteorologist said, adding that there is, however, no possibility to witness rain in Dhaka during the period.

The highest temperature was recorded 38.5 degrees Celsius at Sitakunda and Rangamati on Sunday while the lowest temperature was 15.3 degrees Celsius at Sreemangal, he added.

The BMD in its weather forecast this morning said weather may remain mainly dry with a partly cloudy sky over the country.

In its 24-hour forecast, the Met Office said day temperature may fall by 1-2 degrees Celsius over Barishal and Chattogram divisions and it may remain nearly unchanged elsewhere over the country.

Night temperature may rise slightly, it further said.

Trough of low lies over West Bengal and adjoining area, it said adding that seasonal low lies over South Bay.

The sun sets at 6:13 pm on Sunday and rises at 5:54 am on Monday in Dhaka.
