Railway upgrades Brahmaputra Express service

Bangladesh Railway has upgraded the service of Brahmaputra Express train running on Dhaka-Dewanganj Bazar-Dhaka route by introducing three air-conditioned coaches and a new coach to increase passenger facility and capacity.

Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan inaugurated the intercity train with the new provision at a ceremony at Dewanganj Bazar Station premises on Thursday.

Officials said the Brahmaputra Express will now have   a capacity of 795 passengers.

Passengers will enjoy journey in three air-conditioned coaches which have  replaced  existing normal coaches.

Passenger capacity of the train has been increased adding one new coach to the train totaling the number to 16.

At present Teesta and Brahmaputra Express operate between Dhaka and Dewanganj Bazar of which Brahmaputra runs seven days a week due to high demand from passengers.

However, other trains also touch the station for its strategic location near the Bangabandhu Bridge on the Jamuna river.

On the occasion, the railways minister announced that the train service of Bijoy Express running between Chattogram and Mymensingh will be extended up to Dewanganj Bazar as the local people demanded during the inaugural function.

Besides, he said Jamalpur express will also be extended up to Dewanganj Bazar.

The minister said the government has plan to reach train service to the door of all districts.

Dewanganj Bazar station will be modernised by December as part of the plan to renovate 50 stations in the country, Nurul Islam mentioned.

The inaugural function was attended by, among others, State Minister for Religion Mohammad Faridul Haq Khan, State Minister for Information Dr Mohammad Murad Hasan, members of parliament Mirza Azam and Engineer Mohammad Mozaffor.
