Railway authority failed to execute a High Court order to provide Tk 2 million as compensation to the family of Jihad, who died after falling into a deep well in Shahjahanpur area of Dhaka in 2014.
The High Court summoned on Tuesday the Director General of Bangladesh Railway to appear before it on August 14 and explain the failure.
An HC bench of Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Mohammad Ali passed the order after a hearing a contempt of court rule, reports UNB.
Earlier on December 26 of 2014, four-year-old Jihad died after falling into a 600-foot abandoned shaft of a water pump at Shahjahanpur Railway Colony.
The body of Jihad was pulled out from the abandoned shaft 23 hours after he had slipped into it.
On December 28 of 2014, Advocate Md Abdul Halim filed a writ petition with the High Court seeking its directives for providing Tk 3 million as compensation to Jihad's family members.
On February 18, 2016, an HC bench comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Kazi M Ejarul Haque Akond asked the government to compensate Tk 2 million to the family.
A legal notice was served to defendants on January 22 as they did not provide the compensation money to the family.
Later, the contempt petition was filed as the defendants did not reply to the legal notice.
Earlier on March 1 last, the High Court issued a contempt of court rule on three government officials for not implementing the HC order over the compensation.
Barrister Abdul Halim stood for the petitioner while Advocate Asadul Haq represented the Bangladesh Railway during Tuesday's hearing.
