Rail communication from Sylhet suspended

Rail communication between Sylhet and other parts of the country has been suspended since Saturday afternoon after an oil-laden train derailed in Moulvibazar’s Kulaura area, an official said.

Sylhet Station Manager Mohammad Khalilur Rahman told The Financial Express that the Sylhet-bound oil-carrying train slipped off tracks at Bhatera around 2:15 pm leaving rail communication of Sylhet with other parts of the country suspended.

Out of 12 oil tankers, one derailed from the rail track, he said.

A rescue team has already reached the accident spot, added Mr Khalilur.

However, he could not provide the information about whether oil in tank wagon is spilling or not.

Earlier on February 5, railway communication with Sylhet with other parts of the country remained suspended for 27 hours after an oil-carrying train derailed in Fenchuganj upazila of Sylhet.

Out of 20, eight tankers of the oil-laden train got derailed at Gutigaon area between Maijgaon and Bialibazar of the upazila.
