The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained Babul Miah, the prime suspect in the rape and murder of 15-year-old Beauty Akter, from Sylhet’s Beanibazar on Friday.
Assistant Director of RAB-9 and Additional Police Super Moniruzzaman confirmed the arrest of Babul, who has been on the run since the murder. He said further details will be at a press briefing later on.
According to the case details, Sayed Ali’s daughter Beauty was abducted by Babul and some accomplices on January 21. Babul then raped Beauty numerous times over the course of a month while holding her hostage.
On the night of March 16, according to bdnews24, Babul reportedly abducted Beauty again from her home and raped her again before killing her.
Beauty's body was recovered from the haor area in Shayestaganj Upazila on the following day. Amid huge public outcry, police formed a three-member committee to investigate the case.
The incident created a widespread public outcry after a photograph of Beauty’s body lying on a field went viral on Facebook.
On March 1, her father had filed an abduction and rape case against Babul and his mother, a member of Brahmandora Union Parishad, at the district’s Woman and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal.
