Quota reform activists have given the government an ultimatum to publish a gazette notification by Sunday afternoon abolishing the existing quota system in government jobs as per the Prime Minister's declaration.
If the government fails to publish the gazette, the students will begin an indefinite strike from tomorrow (Monday) at all educational institutes across the country, said Nurul Haque Nur, co-convener of Bangladesh General Students Rights Protection Alliance, reports UNB.
Meanwhile, they observed a two-hour strike from 11:00am to 1:00pm in colleges and universities throughout the country on Sunday by suspending all classes and examinations.
The agitated students formed a human chain on Dhaka University campus demanding the immediate issuance of gazette notification abolishing the present quota system in government jobs.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Bangladesh General Students Rights Protection Alliance gave the government a 24-hour ultimatum to publish a gazette notification.
Convener of the alliance Hasan Al Mamun came up with the announcement from a press briefing as the government failed to publish a gazette by Thursday last.
