Quader’s condition improving, but not out of danger: Doctors

The condition of Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader is improving steadily, but he is not yet out of danger.

A panel of doctors at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) gave the information on Sunday evening at a media conference at the hospital, report UNB and bdnews24.com.

The press conference was held around 5:45 pm to deliver an update on the condition of the road transport and bridges minister.

“He is steadily improving, but is not out of danger,” said Professor Asit Baran Adhikary, a heart surgeon at BSMMU.

"We're optimistic about the recovery of Obaidul Quader. It's a matter of time," said BSMMU cardiology department chairman Prof Syed Ali Ahsan.

"Quader is blinking his eyes and trying to talk to others. If his condition remains stable, we'll go for a bypass surgery," said Syed Ali Ahsan at the briefing.

BSMMU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Kanak Kanti Barua said, "Quader is responding to others."

Replying to a question, Dr Kanak Kanti, said, "Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told them that the ailing minister will be taken abroad for better treatment with the consent of the physicians."

Asked about the arrival of a Singapore medical team, the BSMMU VC said, "It'll be monitored by the Prime Minister's Office. We'll allow Quader to take him to Singapore if we see there is adequate manpower and expertise in the team."

BSMMU Director Brig Gen Abdullah Al Harun and some other physicians of the hospital were present at the press briefing.

Obaidul Quader, also general secretary of Awami League, was admitted to the CCU of BSMMU in the morning following his breathing complications.

Doctors found three blockages in his coronary artery following an angiogram, BSMMU cardiology department chairman Prof Syed Ali Ahsan.

President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury visited Obaidul Quader on the second floor of the BSMMU ‘D’ block.
