Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has  said on Wednesday  the overall progress of the much expected Padma Bridge rose to more than fifty per cent.

"The main construction work of the bridge has already progressed and additional time would be required for setting up the second span of the bridge," he said this while inaugurating five new bridges at Srinagar on Munshiganj highway.

Quader expected that within middle of January the second span of the bridge would be installed, adding, "Our target to complete construction of the Padma Bridge on time."

He said the government constructed five bridges including Mostafaganj bridge (16 metres), Randhuni Bari bridge (29 metres), Singhpara bridge (14 metres), Kola bridge (18 metres) and Kusumpur Baganbari Masjid (Malipara) bridge(23 metres) with an outlay of Tk 200 million, reports BSS.

Besides, 29 vulnerable bailey bridges are being replaced with concrete bridges, the Minister added.

He also said that the construction of 15 more bridges will be completed by June 2016 and the remaining nine bridges will be completed by December, 2019.

Quader expressed his hope that by 2020, the construction work of RCC / PCG bridges will be completed in place of all the risky Bailey Bridges under Munshiganj Road Division.

Additional Chief Engineer of Dhaka Zone Abdus Sabur, and Executive Engineer of Munshiganj Mamunur Rashid were present.
