SYLHET, June 28: The newly-constructed building of the Sunamganj District Hospital was handed over to the Health Department recently.
District Civil Surgeon Ashutosh Das said, "We took over the new building from the Public Works Department (PWD)."
"It would take time to start operation of the 250-bed hospital as the instruments are yet to be imported. Besides, manpower posting is a major issue", he added.
Ministry of Health and Family Planning started the project with a targeted cost of Tk 320 million in 2014, but it was later raised to Tk 400 million.
Work on the seventh floor on the new building of 250-bed hospital was completed in 2016.
Work on the eighth floor was completed recently while some minor works of the building remained undone yet.
The ICU and CCU are to be set at the eighth floor.
Sunamganj Sadar Hospital sources said the number of patients is on rise day by day and they have to suffer a lot to cope with the ever increasing number of patients, including women and children.
