Publication of Shahid Qadri’s books without family’s consent sparks protest

Students of Dhaka University formed a human chain, demanding steps to stop the illegal publication and sale of books written by Ekushey award winner late poet Shahid Qadri.

The students under the banner of ‘General Students of Dhaka University’ formed the human chain on the campus on Monday.

Speakers at the human chain said the illegal publication and sale of the book of the poet will have to be stopped immediately as no publication houses contacted Shahid Qadri's only son Adnan Qadri for permission.

They alleged that in February 2017, Nobojug Publication published a book 'Shahid Kadri Poetry Compilation" while 'Prothoma Publications published 'Godhulir Gan' in September of 2017. Besides, Bengal publishers published another book of the poet ' Ekti Aungtit Moto Tomake Poresi Swadesh' violating the copyright rule.

These three publishers never contacted Shahin Qadri's family members and did not even take permission from them, reports UNB.

The protesters also urged the Bangla Academy to take the strict action against such misdeeds.
