Proper design of building can reduce the risk of fire and minimise the loss, said Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence Director General Brigadier General Ali Ahmed Khan.
He said the building owners stand accused in most of the cases after any incident of fire. He alerted the owners to influence the engineers to design and develop the buildings.
The fire service chief came up with the statement at a press meet on International Fire Safety and Security Expo - 2018, a three-day long international fire safety fair, at Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) on Saturday.
The 3-day long fair will commence form Thursday at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.
According to UNB, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal will inaugurate the ceremony as a chief guest.
The fair will run from 8 am to 10 pm of these days. At least 30 countries will participate at the fair and 60 stalls will be there.
The Fire Services and Civil Defence is the co-partner of the fair where Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) will participate as parterres.
