Professor AKM Maksud Kamal has been appointed the new pro vice-chancellor (Academic) of Dhaka University.
Dr Kamal was appointed to the post on Thursday for four years.
According to the Act 13(1) of DU order, 1973, President Abdul Hamid, also chancellor of the university, appointed him as the post was vacant.
Previously, the post was held by Professor Nasreen Ahmed.
Maksud Kamal is also the elected president of Dhaka University Teachers' Association (DUTA).
He worked as the founding chairman of the Department of Disaster Science and Management (DSM). He has been serving as the dean of the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences since 2012.
