Pro-AL lawyers declares panel for SCBA election

Pro-Awami League lawyers’ forum Sammilita Ainjibi Samannay Parishad (SASP) has announced the panel for the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) executive committee elections for 2022-23 sessions.

Senior Advocate and also a former additional attorney general Md Momtaz Uddin Fakir has been picked for the president post in upcoming poll, while Advocate Md Abdun Nur Dulal nominated for the post of secretary.

Sources said, Supreme Court lawyer and also Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh declared their names with 12 other members as a panel at the Gulshan residence of Law Minister Anisul Huq after a meeting regarding the issue at Saturday night.

Advocate Mohammad Hossain and advocate Md Shahidul Islam will contest in the posts of vice president, Barrister Md Hurunur Rashid and Barrister ABM Hamidul Mejbah will vie in the posts of assistant secretary and Dr Md Iqbal Karim will appear for the post of treasurer from the panel.

Lawyers Hasan Tarique Palash, Md Maniruzzaman Rana, Munmun Nahar, Subrata Kumar Kundu, Shafique Raihan Shawon, Shahadat Hossain Rajib and Fetema Begum Rina will appear for the seven posts of executive member from the panel.

The annual election of the Supreme Court Bar Association for its 14 executive posts will be held on March 15 and 16.

SCBA’s incumbent secretary Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal recently announced the schedule by issuing a notification. A meeting of the present executive committee finalized the schedule, said the Secretary.

The main contest of the election will take place between the candidates of ruling Awami League-backed Sammilita Ainjibi Samannaya Parishad and BNP-backed Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Parishad (JAOP), however, the pro-BNP panel yet to announce its panel.

Lawyer Gazi Kamrul Islam Sajal, secretary of the Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum’s Supreme Court unit, said their forum will sit in a meeting today (Monday) for finalizing the panel.
