Terming the freedom struggle a pride, President M Abdul Hamid on Thursday called upon all concerned to inform the new and future generation about the real history of country's struggle for freedom and the Liberation War.
President said the country is in need of having continuity in its democratic process for undisrupted development process and expedited progress.
"Nothing but democracy can ensure people's fundamental rights, rule of law, human rights and freedom of thoughts, speech and expression," he said while addressing a public meeting on Fatema Khanam Degree College ground in the afternoon.
But, he said, a coordinated effort of all irrespective of party affiliations was very urgent for continuation and institutionalization of the democratic process.
"There may have political differences among the people, but the hard-earned country is for all," the President said urging everybody to contribute to the country from their respective positions to build a beautiful and livable Bangladesh for the next generation.
"Let each citizen know the actual history of freedom struggle and the Liberation War . . . They have to know who had contribution to the 1971 Liberation War," President Hamid said.
The President said the spirit of freedom struggle needed to be instilled into everybody's heart and suggested that a museum sould be established at district and upazila levels to preserve the memory of the Liberation War.
About inauguration of an independence museum at Bhola Sadar, he said inhabitants of Bhola district can be able know about the contribution of heroes of this region to the 1971 Liberation War through it.
The President said, "We have to pay due respect to the people who brought the hard-earned independence by dint of their fresh blood and all will have to work unitedly to attain the aim and objectives for which they (freedom fighters) fought for."
Abdul Hamid was very critical of the anti-Liberation War quarter that tried to distort the actual country's history soon after the brutal assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the fateful 15 August in 1975, as per UNB report.
"False doesn't dominate long . . . Truth always wins the race over falsehood," the President said adding that this universal fact was witnessed in Bangladesh as well.
Referring to country's tremendous development trend under the incumbent government, he said, "Per capita income has increased, poverty rate has decreased and remittance flow is on the rise gradually."
Besides, the achievements in health, education, agriculture, social safety net coverage, women empowerment, electricity, information and communication technology (ICT) and different socio-economic sectors have gained global people's appreciation, he added.
The president said Bangladesh emerged as a role model of development across the world as "it now became a lower middle-income country while the digital Bangladesh was no more an imagination, it is a reality".
"If this development trend continues, Bangladesh will be a middle-income country by 2021 and a developed one by 2041", the President hoped.
