President, PM condole death of Vietnam president

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have expressed deep shock at the untimely demise of Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang saying it is an irrevocable loss for the people and the Communist Party of Vietnam.

"On behalf of the people and the Government of Bangladesh and my own behalf, I convey deepest sympathy and condolences to the people and the Government of Vietnam and to the mourning family members of the deceased President," President Hamid said in a message to Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, acting State President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

The President said he is extremely saddened to learn about the untimely demise of the Politburo member of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the State President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

He said late President Tran Dai Quang will always remain in the hearts of the people of Bangladesh for his keenness and personal initiatives to further strengthen the bilateral relationship between our two nations.

"I had the privilege to have a comprehensive interaction with the visionary leader during his visit to Bangladesh in March this year," President Hamid recalled.

Prime Minister Hasina in her message to Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said she is profusely saddened to learn about the premature demise of the State President of Vietnam.

"In this hour of grief, the people and the Government of Bangladesh join me to express deepest condolences to the people and the Government of Vietnam and to the family and friends of the deceased leader. The untimely demise of Tran Dai Quang is an immense loss for the people and the Communist Party of Vietnam," she said.

Hasina said the people of Bangladesh will always remember the late President for his invaluable contributions in taking our bilateral relationship to a new height.

"I recall with gratitude his recent visit to Bangladesh in March this year, which provided an opportunity to jointly chart the future course of our bilateral relations for the materialization of the common aspiration of our two peoples," she mentioned.

Both the President and Prime Minister prayed for the departed soul and conveyed sympathy for the bereaved family and the people of Vietnam, according to UNB.

Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang died on Friday aged 61 at a military hospital in the capital Hanoi following a period of illness.
