President, PM condole death of Ashraf’s wife

Public Administration Minister and Awami League (AL) presidium member Syed Ashraful Islam’s wife Sheila Islam has passed away at a hospital in London on Monday. She was 57.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have expressed deep shock at the death of Shila Islam.

In a condolence message, the President prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family, President's deputy press secretary M Abul Kalam Azad said.

In a separate condolence message, the prime minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain has also expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Shila Islam.

He said Shila Islam had been suffering from cancer. She breathed her last at 8:10am (Bangladesh time) on Monday at King’s College Hospital in London, according to a press release.

Awami League Presidium member Syed Ashraf and the couple's daughter Reema Islam was by her side when she breathed her last.

Diagnosed with cancer, Sheila was undergoing treatment at the hospital's intensive care unit for the last five days.

Born in a Gujrati family in London, Sheila graduated from the University of Nottingham.
