President M Abdul Hamid has paid rich tributes to the martyrs of the Liberation War of Bangladesh by placing wreaths at the National Mausoleum in Savar.
The President placed wreaths at the monument at around 3pm on Wednesday after taking the oath as the head of the state for second consecutive term on Tuesday, reports BSS.
President signed the visitors' book at the National Mausoleum as a mark of profound respect to the memories of the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War.
Later, Abdul Hamid paid respect to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing wreaths on the portrait of Bangabandhu at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in Dhanmondi at around 4pm.
Earlier, President Guard Regiment gave President Hamid a guard of honour at the Bangabhaban.
Wearing a black Mujib coat and a white Panjabi, President Abdul Hamid exchanged greetings with Bangabhaban officials after the guard of honour.
Abdul Hamid will travel to Gopalganj's Tuingipara on Thursday to pay respect to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at his grave.
On Friday, he will visit his own Upazila Mithamoin in Kishoreganj district.
President Hamid made a unique record in the history of Bangladesh by swearing in as the head of the state for second consecutive term.
He is the first politician in Bangladesh to get re-elected as president after completion of the first term.
