President leaves for Istanbul to join OIC summit

President M Abdul Hamid left Dhaka for Istanbul on Monday night to join Organisation of Islamic Cooperation's (OIC) special summit convened on December 13.

"A Turkish Airlines flight, carrying the President and his entourage, left Hazrat Shahjalal (R) International Airport at about 10.35 pm to join the special OIC summit in Istanbul," said President's Press Secretary M Joynal Abedin.

The meeting will be held over the unilateral US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital sparking protests across the Muslim world, says a BSS report.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, dean of the diplomatic crops, cabinet secretary, chiefs of the three services, principal secretary to the Prime Minister's Office, Inspector General of Police, Turkish ambassador in Dhaka, and other civil and military officials saw off the President at the VVIP Lounge of the airport.

The President is expected to reach Istanbul on early Tuesday while he is set to return home next day, he added.

President Hamid will meet Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who currently chairs the grouping of the Muslim countries.

The press secretary said the President would take part in the summit at Istanbul Congress and Exhibition Centre (ICEC) at 11 am on Wednesday to highlight Bangladesh's position on the issue.
