Pradeep, six others put on four-day fresh remand

A court in Cox’s Bazar has placed seven police personnel, including former OC of Teknaf Police Station Pradeep Kumar Das, on a four-day remand each in connection with the case filed over the killing of Major (retd.) Sinha Md Rashed Khan.

Cox’s Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate Court passed the order when the accused were produced before the court on Monday afternoon upon completion of their seven-day remand, said investigation office of the case ASP Khairul Alam of RAB-15.

Other accused are – former inspector and in-charge of Baharchhara Police Investigation Centre Liaqat Ali, former sub-inspector Nandadulal Rakshit, assistant sub-inspector Liton Mia, and constables Kamal Hossain, Safanur Karim and Abdullah Al Mamun, reports BSS.

Lawyer of Shahria Sharmin Ferdous, the plaintiff and sister of Sinha, and investigation officer of the case prayed for a fresh seven-day remand for each.

After holding hearing, Magistrate Tamanna Farah ordered to place the accused police personnel on four-day remand each.

Among the accused, Pradeep, Liaqat and Nandadulal have been in custody of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) for seven days during the first spell of remand following a court order to this end on August 6.

Major (retd.) Sinha Md Rashed Khan was shot dead at a police checkpoint on Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive at Shamlapur under Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar on July 31.
