Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has alleged that some powerful and intelligent countries have the ‘historical habit’ to suppress third-world countries like Bangladesh by creating unrest.
Talking to journalists, on Monday, the minister alleged that whenever there are elections in a developed country these countries become active.
These countries want to instigate unrest in Bangladesh as they cannot tolerate the spectacular development achieved by the country, he said.
In this regard, he mentioned that countries like Libya and Iraq, which were very stable, were destroyed by these powerful countries.
The minister said that it is the combined responsibility of all the people to resist such an attempt because if there is unrest in the country, everybody will be the victim.
Mr Momen also pointed out that western countries want to impose their model on countries like Bangladesh, but they should understand that models should be varied from country to country.
“But they think that their model is the best. They want to apply their model,” he said and made it clear that Bangladesh would not accept any model imposed by others.
`Responding to a question, he said the incident over the security concern raised by the US Ambassador Peter Haas would not harm the bilateral ties between the two countries.
Both countries are enjoying warm ties in multiple areas and such a small matter would not affect that ties, he added.
He mentioned that when Washington had informed the Bangladesh Ambassador of the incident, the Ambassador gave them full assurance to take all the necessary steps to ensure the security of the envoy.
Responding to a question, he said that the foreign ministry was not informed of the US envoy’s visit to the place.
Referring to the diplomatic norms he said that envoys should inform the ministry before any movement outside and they were reminded of such norms.
However, he also admitted that any organisation which intends to place any memorandum to the envoy should secure a prior appointment.
“We do not encourage anybody to violate the due process,” he said.
It may be mentioned that recently, the US Envoy met the foreign minister to express concern over his security after he was obstructed by members of an organisation named ‘Mayer Kanna’, a platform of the kith and kin of those who were allegedly the victim of enforced disappearances during the regime of Late President Ziaur Rahman, who ruled the country from 1977 to 1981.
Mr Haas faced an obstruction when he went to the residence of an opposition activist, who is allegedly the victim of the enforced disappearance during the rule of the present government.
An organisation named ‘Mayer Daak’ arranged a meeting in the residence of the victim.
