Power supply will be restored in all areas as soon as possible: Nasrul Hamid

State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid has said the power supply across the country will be restored as soon as possible.

The state minister came up with the statement on Facebook on Tuesday evening amid a power outage that hit a large part of the country after 2:00 pm on Tuesday.

He informed that Power Division officials are engaged in the restoration process relentlessly.

Earlier on the day, Nasrul Hamid told UNB that the officials restored the power supply in many places, including in Dhaka.

“We’ve already restored electricity supply at Bangabgaban and Ganabhaban and also some parts in Mirpur and other areas,” he said.

He said the officials in power entities are working hard to restore electricity all over the country.

“But for Dhaka city, I have instructed officials to go steadily to avoid further disruptions,” he said.

“If they do any hurry, it may cause further disruption which we want to avert,” he added.

At 2:05 pm on Tuesday, the national power transmission grid failed and caused a blackout across Bangladesh except for some parts of the north.

According to officials at Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB), the transmission line tripped somewhere in the eastern part of the country, especially in districts on the east of the Jamuna river.

Only a few districts in the Rangpur division were out of the power failure, said a top official of PGCB.
