Automation of the state-run power sector entities has become necessary to bring about transparency and accountability, and check corruption, state minister for power, energy, and mineral resources Nasrul Hamid said on Thursday.

Ensuring consumers' satisfaction and discharging duties by the power sector employees with accountability would be easier once the automation is fully implemented, he said.

For a smooth introduction of the automated operations system, implementation of the enterprise resource planning, or ERP, is necessary, he added. Mr. Hamid was speaking at a virtual meeting on ERP solution with the top executives of the state-run power sector companies from his residence.

The Power Division under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, or MPEMR, is currently implementing the ERP with assistance from Microsoft, Computer Services, Techno Heaven, and Tech Vision, he said. Mr. Hamid urged the power sector employees to be serious and cooperative to implement the ERP within the shortest possible time and improve consumers' confidence.
