Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader alleged that people are not responding to BNP's call.
"They do not have that much of strength now as people are not responding to their call," he said.
The road transport and bridges minister made the remarks on Sunday while inaugurating the construction works on the second Meghna-Gumti Bridge at Kanchpur in Daudkandi upazila of Comilla.
"If BNP tries to create turmoil again in the name of boycotting the next general election, people will protest and resist them," he said.
The minister said whether BNP will participate in the next polls without Khaleda Zia is completely their decision.
"The government has nothing to say about it," he said.
According to UNB, he said the country is running in a democratic way and the election will take place in time according to the rule.
Talking about the bridge constriction, Quader said it will be completed six months ahead of stipulated time and will curtail people's sufferings.
Daudkandi upazila chairman Mohammad Ullah Sumon, municipality mayor Nayeem Yusuf and high officials of the project were present at the programme.
