Oli Ahmed terms freeing Khaleda, restoring democracy 20-party’s lone goal

The BNP-led 20-party alliance has got now the only goal of re-establishing democracy by freeing Khaleda Zia.

One of the alliance leaders and President of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Dr Colonel (Retired) Oli Ahmed came up with the remarks on Monday.

He said the Zia Orphanage Graft case verdict is nothing but a 'mockery' as the government has already made the judiciary 'controversial'.

Mr Ahmed was addressing a roundtable as the chief guest at National Press Club's VIP Lounge.

Liberation Rights Movement arranged the programme, where the LDP chief said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina says that she is not afraid of death but we think she is very much afraid of fair election and democracy.”

He asked the BNP leaders to be more unified and re-think about their opponent and comprehend them sincerely and also urged the leaders to clarify about the expected duties from alliance parties in the time of poll if Khaleda remains behind the bar.

Speaking as the special guest, former Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Dr. Emajuddin Ahamed said many in BNP are not fully satisfied with the peaceful manner of protest because they want more strong movement.

He, however, reminded them of Khaleda Zia's instruction to remain non-violent.

The ex DU VC said, "I think BNP is now more unified, more integrated and efficient than any time before, but the government thought they can manage to break her party sending Khaleda to jail."

Also, he asked the educated and conscious members of the party to be vocal about the conspiracy about the graft case and suggested them to highlight the reality before the public through their writings in mass media.

UNB said Central Executive Committee Member of BNP Abu Naser Mohammad Rahmatullah, LDP Senior Joint Secretary Shahdat Hossain Salim, addressed the programme, among others, with Dr. Kazi Moniruzzaman Monir, president of the organisation, in the chair.
