Khaleda’s lawyers yet to get certified copy of verdict

Lawyers of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia are yet to get the certified copy of the verdict that sentenced her to five years' imprisonment in a graft case.

Advocate Sanaullah Mia, counsel of the BNP chief, said the court authorities confirmed him that the copy of the verdict of Zia Orphanage Trust graft case will not be available on Wednesday.

The defence counsels of BNP chief Khaleda Zia expected to get the certified copy of the verdict in the afternoon and had a plan file an appeal on Thursday, he said.

Meanwhile, pro-BNP lawyers concluded their token hunger strike in the city, demanding the release of its chairperson Khaleda Zia three hours ahead of its scheduled time following a request by law enforcers.

Earlier, several hundred BNP leaders and activists began the strike at 10:00am in front of the Jatiya Press Club amid the presence of huge law enforcers, reports UNB.

On February 8, a special court in Dhaka convicted former prime minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and sentenced her to five years' imprisonment in the much-talked-about Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

She was then sent to the old central jail at Nazimuddin Road in the city.

On the same day, BNP sought a certified copy of the verdict to file an appeal.
