Hasan urges BNP to find out reason behind Fakhrul’s contradictory statement

Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Friday urged BNP leaders to find out the reason behind inconsistent statements of their BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

“Mirza Fakhrul is saying that the government is showing one-party attitude and then he is also saying that it is not clear whether there is government in the country. It is necessary to find the reason for his self-contradictory and inconsistent statement,” he said.

Hasan, also AL joint general secretary, made the remarks while speaking at a meeting through videoconferencing from his Minto road official residence in Dhaka, reports BSS.

Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote and Janatar Prottasha arranged the meeting at Jatiya Press Club, remembering former deputy speaker and valiant freedom fighter Col (retd) Shawkat Ali who died at a city hospital on Monday last.

Speaking as the chief guest, Hasan said the country is advancing fast under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Bangladesh, he said, has taken place in the list of a few countries that achieved positive GDP growth amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, which is lauded around the world.

But a plot against the state has also started as the country making progress during the pandemic, the information minister added.

During his speech, Hasan prayed for early recovery of BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and wished good health for Mirza Fakhrul.

Paying deep respect to late Col (retd) Shawkat Ali, the AL joint general secretary said Shawkat Ali was a freedom fighter, one of the accused in the Agartala Conspiracy Case and a close associate of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

He described Shawkat Ali as one of the key persons in organising the Awami League after August 15, 1975 and a very popular politician.

Hasan said the death of Shawkat Ali, a role model for the new generation politicians, is an irreparable loss to the country’s politics.

Chaired by Janatar Prottasha president MA Karim, the meeting was addressed, among others, by AL leader advocate Balram Poddar, vice-president of Muktijoddha Samonnoy Parishad Akram Hossain, adviser of AL Dhaka South City Unit Minhaz Uddin Minto, general secretary of Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote Arun Sarkar Rana and president of Bangabandhu Research Council Lion Md Gani Mia Babul.
