Govt to oppose any attack on minority: Quader

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said the present government is determined to resist any attack on the minority community.

The incumbent government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is committed to resist any types of terrorist acts and no one including AL activists will be spared if they are involved in such criminal offense.

Quader said while speaking at a function held Ramakrishna Mission ground in city's Gopibagh area on Wednesday.

Jatiya Party (JP) Presidium Member Kazi Firoj Rashid, MP, addressed the function as the guest of honour with Mission Executive Committee President Gouragopal Shaha in the chair.

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Harsh Vardhan Shringla and Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) Chairman Md Abdur Rahman were present as special guests while eminent writer and researcher Syed Abul Maksud, Engineer Sarwar Kaynat Md Nur, Ramakrishna Math Moharaja Swami Ameyananda Moharaj and Swami Dhrobeshananda, among others, addressed the function.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said, "We should remain alert as the conspirators are hatching conspiracy by torching the houses of minor community and carrying out repression on them ahead of the next parliament elections, as per BSS report.

He said the next general elections will be held as per the constitution.Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be the government's chief during the election period similar to other democratic countries across the world.

Administrations, law enforcers and other organisations related to election will work under the supervision of Election Commission after declaration of polls schedule, he added.

The AL general secretary said a vested quarter is trying to ruin therelation between Bangladesh and India.

"But, I want to say them that they are living in fool's paradise as the relation was established through the sacrifice of Indian soldiers during the Liberation War of Bangladesh...Our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her counterpart Narendra Modi have given the relation of the two countries a new dimension," the minister said.

Earlier, Quader inaugurated the construction works of proposed Bibekananda Bhaban.
