The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) decided to further mount pressure on the government to release the party’ chief Khaleda Zia from jail.
To this end, BNP on Saturday announced another round of three-day countrywide programmes, from Monday to Wednesday, to press home their demand.
BNP senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the programmes at a press briefing at BNP's Nayapaltan central office.
The programmes, according to UNB, include forming a human chain on Monday, an hour-long sit in on Tuesday and a hunger strike from 9am to 5pm on Wednesday.
Rizvi said their party's district, thana, upzila and city units will observe the programmes at their convenient time and place.
The venues for staging the programmes in the capital will be announced later.
On Thursday last, a special court here convicted Khaleda and sentenced her to five years' imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
