Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) President AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury has urged the common people and workers to get ready to resist the government's any move to hold a 'farcical national election'.
"The way government is behaving we can't expect a fair election. The workers, including the RMG ones, and common people must put up a strong resistance together so that the government can't hold any farcical election," he said on Tuesday.
B Chowdhury, also a former President, made the call while addressing a workers' gathering arranged by BDB's labour wing at its Kuril Biswa Road office, marking the May Day, reports UNB.
He alleged that the current government had promised to arrange a fresh election after holding an 'unlawful' election with 153 MPs elected unopposed in 2014. "But, they didn't live up to their commitment. It's an absurd matter to join an election under a regime which breached its promise."
The BDB chief said all must come forward to create a strong resistance against the current 'undemocratic and autocratic' government to 'restore' people's democratic rights.
Voicing deep concern over the growing incidents of road accidents and casualties, he said the government must take strong steps to check the road accidents and bring those responsible for that to justice.
B Chowdhury bemoaned that the government has failed to ensure justice by punishing those responsible for the Rana Plaza tragedy though five years have elapsed since the incident took place killing 1,175 people and injuring over 2,000 others.
