At least 50 BNP men have sustained wounds in a clash with police at Supermarket Chattar of Faridpur district town on Tuesday morning.

Demanding the release of the party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, BNP leaders and activists brought out a procession, led by Faridpur divisional organising secretary Syama Wabed Ringku around 11:15 am, according to witnesses.

But police obstructed them snatching their banners and charged baton on them at one stage.

The BNP men struck back throwing brick chunks at the law enforcers, says a UNB report.

Police later arrested 20 BNP men from the spot.

Nazim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said that the BNP men were obstructed as they brought out the procession without taking permission from the administration.

Party leaders alleged police made attack on their peaceful rally.
