Political violence claims 21 lives in first seven months: ASK

Some 21 people were killed and 1,020 injured in 85 incidents of political violence across the country in the first seven months of the current calendar year, according to a local independent rights body.

Out of the incidents, infighting among the ruling party activists killed 15 and injured 529 people in 38 incidents, according to the data of Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK).

Apart from this, clashes between Awami League (AL) and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) left 57 injured in four incidents.

Infighting among the BNP activists also left one dead and 13 others injured in two incidents, it disclosed.

Violence in the city corporation election killed two and injured 173 in 17 incidents; the local independent rights body unveiled the data.

In 2018, as many as 67 people were killed and 7,287 injured in 701 incidents. The ASK data added that infighting among the Bangladesh Chhatra League killed two in the year and injured 138 in 13 incidents.
