Cyber Support Centre for Women, a cell of Bangladesh Police, has been launched with a view to extending help and support to the female victims of cybercrimes in the country.

Benazir Ahmed, Inspector General of Police (IGP), opened the unit at the Rajarbagh Police Lines Auditorium in Dhaka on Monday.

Speaking as the chief guest at a function, the head of Bangladesh Police pointed out that a large number of women are becoming victims of cybercrimes in the country.

“Cybercrimes has spread like a contagion all over the world. Our country is no exception. In this country, cybercriminals are committing these crimes using different digital platforms including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube. Where they post various pictures or comments to humiliate women socially,” Benazir said.

Most of the women who are being harassed online are between the ages of 20 and 23, he noted.
