Police expanding 999 emergency services across country

Bangladesh police is going to launch the expanded emergency services across the country using toll free phone number 999 by this month.

The police want to upgrade the services aimed at giving services of the fire defence, ambulance and police at the quickest possible time.

"People are currently using the 999 service to get emergency services from police. But after expansion of the service people will get emergency services from police, ambulance and fire brigade," assistant inspector general (media) of police headquarters Soheli Ferdousi told here.

The extended emergency services using the 999 phone number will be inaugurated by this month likewise number 911 in the USA, 999 in the UK, and 112 in the EU, she said, adding that the 999 emergency services in Bangladesh will be world standard.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) desk of the police headquarters have already completed its design and necessary development works to this end and the emergency services will be open 24/7, she also said, says a BSS report.

Community safety awareness workshops have already been organized across the country to make people aware about usage of the services, he also said.
