Police have arrested the wife of physician Akash from Nandan Kanon area in the port city over his reported suicide.
A team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) conducted a drive in the area late on Thursday and arrested Tanjila Haq Chowdhury Mitu at around 11:30pm, said Mahabubur Rahman, police commissioner of CMP.
Earlier on Thursday morning, Mostafa Morshed Akash, 33, a physician and son of Abdus Sabur of Bangla Bazar area of Chandanaish Upazila allegedly killed himself over family feud in Chandgaon residential area in the city.
Akash, who completed MBBS from Chittagong Medical College Hospital, recently had an altercation with his wife suspecting over her alleged illicit affair.
"We have learnt that he took an insulin overdose," said Assistant Sub-inspector Alauddin of Chittagong Medical College and Hospital outpost.
Family members said before his apparent suicide, Akash had shared photos of his wife on his Facebook profile and wrote about her alleged extramarital affair before announcing his decision to end his own life, according to a UNB report.
According to his final Facebook status, the couple tied the knot in 2016. He accused his wife of having an affair with another man before and after their marriage which caused a rift in their conjugal life.
