A man was arrested at Benapole Land Port border with a huge amount of foreign currencies on Saturday.
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) troopers seized $20,200 cash, Indian and Bangladeshi currencies, and seven expensive mobile phones from Mohammad Haque, 50, a resident of Gazipur.
He was returning to country from India and had cleared the Bangladesh customs. Haque was at the passenger terminal when he was caught.
"We conducted a drive after being tipped off about a man carrying large amount of foreign currencies," UNB reports quoting Lt Col Ariful Islam, the commander of BGB-49.
Haque was handed over to Benapole Land Port Police Station. A case was filed over the recovery of the foreign currencies.
