PMO orders action against underage, unlicensed drivers

The Prime Minister’s Office has asked law enforcers to arrest underage and unlicensed drivers in Dhaka.

The directives were given at a meeting at PMO on Tuesday amid student protests over the deaths of two college students in a road crash earlier this week.

Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Md Nojibur Rahman presided over the meeting, reports bdnews24.com.

Representatives from the Road Transport and Highways Division, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) and Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) also attended the meeting.

The PMO also instructed the BRTA and the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to take legal action against those responsible for the deaths of the two students in Sunday's road accident.

The BRTA and DMP were also directed to arrest underage drivers and those with no driving licence in Dhaka.

A bus operated by Jabale Noor ploughed into a group of students from Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College waiting for transport on the Airport Road, killing two of them on the spot and injuring several others on July 29.
